I SEEM TO BE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY DYNAMIS CONTOLLER, IT KEEPS LOOSING THE SIGNAL EVEN WHEN POINTING THE CONTOLLER DIRECTLY AT THE COMMAND STATION, BATTERIES CHECK OUT O K BUT IT RUNS FOR ABOUT 20 SECONDS OR LESS THEN LOOSES THE SIGNAL, ANY SUGGETIONS? I HAVE SENT E MAIL TO BACHMANN REQUESTING ANY IDEAS ALSO SHOULD I SEND IT BACK TO THEM BUT AS YET JUST AN AUTOMATED REPLY OF RECEIVING MY REQUEST.

Does anything else happen Dave? Do the LEDs flash or the signal strength indicator show as low? Are you using brand new batteries?

if you can't get the problem sorted, take it back to where you bought it, get your money back and buy a decent controller like the NEC Power Cab.

I cannot get my System to communicate; the LEDs in the base station keep flashing?

Answer

i) Firstly when you have switched your system on, have you pressed the Emergency Stop button to allow the system to optimise? Until you press the Emergency stop button the Hand Set and the Base station will not communicate with each other. ii) If you have used the system previously and the system is not communicating check that the Edit Remote ID and the Edit base ID are both set to O. You will find these settings in the System Menu section and can be very easily altered. [MENU] -> [LEFT ARROW] ->to reach SYSTEM MENU press [TICK] shows EDIT BASE ID which should be 0. If not, then press [TICK], enter 0 and press [TICK] to save the value and come out of the menu. Then power down the entire system and back up again, basetation first.

THIS IS WIERD DOUG,I have found what is causing the problem, to start with I have 4 plug sockets in the loft fed by one cable, the dynamis is pluged into one for the railway, then I have one for my Hornby Select which I use for the signal lights and programe track, then one to an Ultrapower 10 A  12 volt tranformer for my model lights about 30 of them, and I have discovered that if I disconnect that one the Dynamis works, although it is on a differant plug socket, also when it stops there is no electricity supply to the track , so it is shutting down then after a short period i can start it up again, but the lights powered from the Ultrapower stay on, also not sure but I don`t think the fan on the Ultrapower is comming on, as It periodically did before obviosley as it was getting hot.
Nalt so weired as Electricity good job it`s not running 240 volts or I could probably have blown myself up

What we need now is an electrician type chappie that can work out the power requirements. You know the type, xx volts times 9 ohms divided by 20 watts means you need y sockets and z thickness of cable.

Yes Obviosley I am overloading somewhere, which could be the sockets, but one other thing I tried was to disconnect the lights transformer then plug in the Electric Fire which is a Halogen type and thinking this should use more power than the lights, but no the Dynamis works perfectly, so the other thing is the lights use more Electicity than the Fire
As you say its Watts v Volts and as you will remember seeing my wireing in the past I don`t hold a good record for Electrics.

Maybe something wrong with the lights transformer. Pete is probably the best one to sort it out. He knows a lot more about electrickery than I do.
I did replace all my single wall sockets with double ones from Screwfix as I hate using adaptors.

Just to add. Although Bachmann UK don't have a forum they do have one in the USA which you can join. As one of the Bachmann employees ("The Bach Man") actually answers questions it might be a good place to get advice.

Thanks Doug will use that in future, I did send to bachmann U k for advice , they sent back saying send to them to check it.
Since last message I have run an extension cable from the Garage to run the lights so they are not on the same circuit, and unbelievable it still knocks out the dynamis, so it is the 10 amp transformer that somehow is knocking out the Dynamis, just half way through re wireing lights now through my spare Hornby Elite on the Aux and so far so Good

As Pol says , Those four way sockets are not to good you are better off if you get proper mains sockets fitted , it could be that the socket is faulty so giving a poor connection so the power to the Dynamis keeps going on and off quickly so resetting it .

HI PETER Its not a 4 way socket as such its 4 separate sockets but with same feed fitted by a Leci. But I even tried connecting the Ultrapower to an extension lead from garage and when swiched on it still knocked the Dynamis out. So got to be ultrapower somehow interfeering wiith the infra red signal to the Dynamis. Still re wireing the lights to another transformer so will see what happens when compleated.

Believe it or not... wired my lights all 30 of them to 2 transformers 1 old hornby analogue 10 lights and 20 to my spare elite, and everything works no cut outs, and with the dynamis I can now stand a lot further away and still send a strong signal to the command station, but beats me how when useing the ultrapower transformer which is 10 amps which should light all my lights and useing it from a differant power sorce can it blow the dynamis out. My only conclusion is somehow it interfears with the infa red signal???
Sorry to dissapoint no glow in the sky to-night ..so far...as they say watch this space

Not a clue Dave, unless the ultrapower has an infra red indicator light on it????

That is the one Peter, but no infra red light like Doug suggests, so God knows why it should upset the Dynamis initially I thought mayebe in my jungle of wires have I accidently wired one of my lights on to my bus line to the track, but no and  I have said now they are connected to other transformeres no problem, also the lights are brighter.

Who needs to go to Blackpool to see lights? As you can see I have just one or two, there are a few more not on picture, then you wonder why I blow my electrics.

I think i know why   That power supply is ment for charging batterys , so it does not like only having the lights on its output as it will be waiting for a voltage back from the battery to ajust the charging level . This would radiate a signal around the wires which could mess up the signal from the Dynamis .
One answer might be to fit a rechargable 12 volt battery onto the output , this would give the charger the right load , as well as running the lights off it .
Or look around for a LCD tv power supply thats 12volts output and use them , I picked up 1 at the weekend from the local tip for £2 that was a 5 amp output

That sounds like you have found the answer Peter, I shall just keep the Ultrapower for future use, as you can see I have the lights working o k now and the Dynamis works better than ever, but shall think twice about adding more lights.

Another option  is   a  laptop    power supply   Dave  ..  i  have been told   some PC     companies will  give  them   free if  asked  as they have  loads  hanging  around  doing  nothing.

Do you mean laptop to supply power for lights?

Sounds a bit technical for me, but the way this computer keeps playing up it could be a contender, spent 1 hour to someone in India last week trying to sort it out, and I couldn`t understand half what they said., finally got a Scotsman on 1 day later did sort it out but again hard accent to follow, why don`t they do what our great Leader Brown said British Jobs for the British. Then again he is Scottish time they sent him back.

There's only one way to deal with computers. Follow the Basil Fawlty method.

Got me completley bambozeled as well Doug , but in a way I think it is near to what Peter said.   (for sale 1 Ultrapower going cheap)
