This may not be brand new 'news'. But I haven't seen it on other forums.

Dapol Launch new motor 01.04.08
New motor for future Dapol Range launched

At this last weekends Alexander Palace show we were very pleased to launch publicly our new motor for use in modern and heritage traction models. This is the first bespoke motor to be made exclusively for Dapol to our specifications.

We call it our 'Super Creep' technology motor, as it has the ability to, literally, creep very slowly (continuously) from power being applied and then smoothly transition and accelerate up to running speeds . No high speed starts, or jerky running.

It has a 5 pole high skew wound motor, and this, coupled with a couple of other innovations gives it class leading performance right from the box.

At the show we demonstrated a Q1 locomotive with this motor fitted (albeit the tender had the motor sticking out of it as it was'nt designed for it) running smoothly all weekend, and slowed down to 'creep' for those that were interested. there was no torque roll of the locomotive, or motor induced locomotive wobble.

However the real star was the 66 which was a 'bog standard' DCC ready chassis with just the motor swapped from the original to the new' Super Creep' one, and just light recommended oiling of the gears as per our web site maintenance instructions.

It was measured at 12inches travel for 15 minutes of time, with no cogging and just smooth transit. Stops were then made with the locomotive for the press, and interested members of the public, and it was restarted again with ease, smoothly and consistently. High speed runs were also shown, and then smooth slowing down to a crawl again without problem.

In tests at our factory here in Chirk we had 6ft covered in 41 minutes which now seems fast compared to the last weekends demonstrations!

Sleeper creeping is a thing of the past, this motor gives you, the consumer, even slower control.

Those who saw it in operation were suitably impressed, so look out for it in the upcoming 156, 67, B17 and Manor locomotives.
