Nope. All plastic. And all wrong too. Rather the being sat on 8 five axle bogies, the model is sat on 4 ten axle bogies. Gonna need a bit of surgery me thinks...

With that amount of detail you'd think they would have the axles right.
I think you can get metal inserts to make the wheels run better, but I can't remember where I saw them.

My experiences with Fujimi models was that they are prone to some extreme (and silly) errors.  It's probably due to insufficient research while trying to keep up with Tamiya.

That's going to be an awful lot of kit bashing to get it accurate Al.

Enjoy

I've got a reasonable amount of research data on the gun, including 1:76 scale GA drawings. These about half a dozen thinks wrong with the model, which I may or may not recitify...

This is as far as I've got so far. Built up the main body which is suported by 8 ten wheels bogies. Above it sits the gun mechanizum. The loco is a BR94 for scale comparison...

You could just about fit the loco down the barrel.

'Awesome' is a very over-used word at the moment, but this model really deserves to be called that.

I look forward to seeing the finished product!

The April 1979 Military Modelling magazine has an article on the Schwerer Gustav Railway Gun.

Oddly enough, it was April 1979 when I decided I wanted one...

I hope he measured the doors to wherever he built it first. I couldn't get my Dalek through mine.

Very impressive. How do you paint the detail parts when it's all together?

If you click on the circle at the top left of the page there is a comparison of different sizes of railway guns.

Well, Dora has gound to a halt this week for two reasons.

1, I'm stuggling to find 40 sets of replacement wheels at a reasonable price.

2, I've ran out of Tamiya TS-4 German Grey spray paint.

Wheels arn't too much of a problem. Although the ones in the kit aren't great, they are good enough as long as the model is completly static. However, the paint is. Aparently all Tamiya sprays were recalled last year and no-one knows when the new batch will arrive....

I've reviewed how Dora will be used on my layout and decided she'll be static scenery. Therefore there seemed little sence in forking out 20 odd quid on wheels that'll never turn. So, after a bit of messing about, I've got the kit wheels to fit and look good.

This is how she looks now. Ready for stripping down to her block parts and painting. With luck I should have enough Tamiya paint left...
