I have a thought (planted by Mrs TheThing) to add a bit of a hill to my layout. Mole Valley is surrounded by the North Downs and the line should really run downhill from Epsom, however...
I want to make a hill with a tunnel under (doesn't have to be long) but also run some track over the top. Nothing like ambition! Any thoughts about the best way to do this and the best materials to use? _________________ The Thing (aka Hugh)
The problem with trains running through tunnels is this will be the place where they derail*. Therefore it's always a good idea to make the tunnel removable, which could be a problem if you have track over the top too.
The only way I can think of to do what you want (but also run some track over the top) would be to have something like TerryB's Loftborough and have a narrow gauge on top of the OO. There's no chance you would get a standard loco to pull up an incline that would be required in the space you have.
And as Pol says, it would have to be romovable so that you can get at derailments! _________________ OK, so now what do I do?
