Right, here goes my first attempt at a loco repaint, i decided I'd start with something not worth alot, so i settled on my Caledonian 0-4-0 that i'd recieved for free, and had managed to damage the paint on!

The poor thing started like this:

It was then sprayed completely black to cover the blue, and then sprayed green after the black had almost completely dried. It currently looks like this:

Next step is to paint in the smokebox, bac roof, and underframe black again (couldnt find any masking tape, so they had to go green when I sprayed it!)

More to come soon!

Nice smooth paint job. Mine always looks like porridge.

Did you use a spraying chamber (or whatever it's called), am thinking of putting one together.

Glad you went for green Thomas, otherwise it might have looked like a Dave clone!

Good bit of spray painting.  Don't be impatient before you start painting the black - let the sprayed coat 'cure' for a day or two.

So hang on, three members have now modified these little engines:
Domino, my white one with outside cylinders;
Daft Dave;
And this latest one. Do we need to start open days to show off all our efforts?

Looking fantastic Noakesy, much higher quality painting than anything I've done. Should look a treat when it's finished.

thanks everyone!

For paint I can highly recommend the railmatch sprays! I left the loco to dry over night, and when i got home today I painted in the black, the red bufferbeam, and metal finishing touches.

Here is the result:

RetroGoth: I did use a spray chamber, in the form of a cardboard box in the garage, with the loco sitting on the top of a cut-in-half water bottle, as seen in the pics in my previous post.

thanks again for the comments,

Thomas.

Good stuff Thomas... but now for the critique that might be of use on the next one you do!

Sand off the old transfers before you do the re-spray. You can still see the raised numbers which mars the overall finish.  They aren't difficult to remove if you gently rub with a pan scourer (the plastic type stuff, not the wire mess type) and give the body a good wash before you spray.

Are you going to try and line it in 0.5 mm yellow?  (JOKE! )

yeah, The numbers are a bit of a let down, i didnt think about them until after the paint had been sprayed, and i was too lazy to sand it back and re-do it. I have a cunning plan though.... The BR emblems (when i get them) will go over the top of the numbers, hopefully hiding them!

I would use T-cut on a cotton but to remove numbers. You can then easily see how much to remove and its very gentle.

Thanks for the tip, will certainly use that next time! Not sure what the next victim is going to be... Will probably only be a renumber though...
