Set the wrong values on your decoder? Can't remember what they should be? This guide from Tony's Train Exchange could be exactly what you're looking for. http://www.tonystrains.com/technews/dec_rescue.htm

*Bachmann reset: Write 8 to CV8.
*Hornby reset: Write 8 to CV8.



*Actually it says write 08 and not 8, but who enters the '0' in their controller?

Good  info  Poliss,  
I have  tried  reading  manufacturers  number  after  fitting  a  decoder  and  got  the  number  255   which  doesnt  exist  meaning  there  is  a fault  more  than like  a short on  the install .....after  checking  it  was corrected  and  a normal   reading  of  153(TCS)  in  this  case  came  back.
