If you live in England and are planning to convert your loft for model railway use the work must comply with the Building Regulations.
This interactive guide should tell you most of what you need to know.

I wouldn't advise ignoring the regs as the fines are huge. £5000.00 to start and then £50.00 a day thereafter until the work complies with the regs. _________________ Get off the line Bobby!

Yes but....
Who knows when I did my loft conversion? I could have done it 5 years ago when the regs weren't so stringent. If you want to do a conversion, use recycled wood and fling a couple of Hoover bags of dust around to make it look old.
BTW, my house was built in 1981 and would not have passed the 1982 regs! _________________ OK, so now what do I do?
