If you live in England and are planning to convert your loft for model railway use the work must comply with the Building Regulations.

I wouldn't advise ignoring the regs as the fines are huge. £5000.00 to start and then £50.00 a day thereafter until the work complies with the regs.

Yes but....
Who knows when I did my loft conversion?  I could have done it 5 years ago when the regs weren't so stringent.  If you want to do a conversion, use recycled wood and fling a couple of Hoover bags of dust around to make it look old.  

BTW, my house was built in 1981 and would not have passed the 1982 regs!

I did mine in 1976 asked our local building inspector what I needed to do, his answer was "get on with it lad"
