I have to say that it's the first time I've seen the white lining on the smoke box.  Anyone know if that was the how she looked?

(Good one for Pol to come back with a link to a picture!)

I've seen wartime pictures of locos with white lining on the smokebox door. No idea if it's accurate in this case.

Found this pic of 6152 The King's Dragoon Guardsman masquerading as 6100 for it's tour of Canada and the USA. Looks like it could be white. http://tinyurl.com/6puv8a

It looks like polished steel to me, but I guess they went for white because it was easier and cheaper.
