Dapol Terrier review in Model Rail. "There are things that are just not possible in N Gauge, and not surprisingly one of the things that Dapol hasn't been able to do is to provide for DCC fitting"

Ummm..errr... well.. yes but, my Glaskasten is half an inch shorter than the Terrier and yet it has DCC built in. Is this another case of British modellers settling for second best again?
In other reviews in this months Model Rail they noted OO models weren't DCC ready.
Models not being at least DCC ready over 20 years after DCC was introduced is unaceptable in my view. They should be marked, 'Sorry, we cannot recommend this model'.

Also noticed a review of DCC systems. The fact that it appears to take 6 button presses to turn sounds on and off on the Hornby Elite wasn't mentioned. Or that it's 9 supported functions are 20 too few to operate all the functions on modern DCC Sound equipped locos. The Roco Multimaus and Multizentrale didn't even get a mention.

I  couldnt  agree  more Poliss   the fact   locos  are  not coming  through   from   Dapol   /Farish etc  non  DCC  ready  makes  them   a dead  duck  in  the water   for some  prospective purchasers ........   if  i  am  looking at a loco   DCC   ready is  a   must  now   ... with  the advent   of   tech    being    more   widely  available ......  in  the  time  DCC  has been around  manufacturers  should  have  got  their act  together.

I really do agree aswell, I don't think 'second best' models as Pol put them should be recommended so highly when other, better, maybe even cheaper in some cases models are readilly available from other companies, especially when it comes to DCC, For example the Hornby Range has I think 5 sound locomotives, many continental Companies (as Pol has stated before) offer whole ranges of DCC sound locomotives  with wheelslip and even brake screech included. I sometimes wish the U.K market would realise this, especially for Exhibition layouts it would be much simpler when it comes to the DCC Functions and offerings, Poliss highlighted, I don't do DCC but that's my opinion.

Why  cant manufacturers   offer a DCC  option  modellers   if  they decide  to do so  in  the future   i  bought an  SD50     from  Proto 2000  life  like  for   the  HO   on  the weekend  well detailed  model   and  i  thought it wouldnt  be  a  problem  to hardwire a  decoder in   the only thing i  need possibly do   is  replace the  LED'S   ......   after taking  off  the  body   there it was  a  plug   all ready to accept a  decoder   about  5 mins  work  if  that   not  worth   upsetting  all  the  wiring  for  a  hardwire so   a Digitrax board  is  on  order  for  it   just  what  the modeller  needs  a  fully  DCC    ready loco.
