I always thought that the 1804 Pen-y-darran was the first locomotive to run on rails and that the drawings and models were of that. But now I'm not so sure. See http://www.scienceandsociety.co.uk/results.asp?image=10307669
Does anyone have any more information?

One of the links on the page points to this:
http://www.scienceandsociety.co.u...151&wwwflag=2&imagepos=13
It's a drawing of the 1803 one and is ever so slightly different from the 1804 engine that all today's models are based on.

Perhaps it's one of those facts that QI might be interested in!

Yes, in the first link it says about the 1804 locomotive "There are no records to show exactly how the locomotive was built: this model is based on the drawing of Trevithick's 1803 locomotive rescaled to suit the gauge of the Pen-y-darran line."
So that means that all drawings and models of the 1804 locomotive are pure guesswork.
