The film's failure achieve a reputation comparable to that of The Lavender Hill Mob may be partially explained by the fact that there were no actual railway fans working on it. A contemporanous article in 'Picturegoer' magazine reported "Odd point about this railway location: not a single railway enthusiast to be found in the whole crew. TEB 'Tibby' Clarke, writer of the script, loathes trains. Producer Michael Truman can't get out of them quick enough. And director Crichton - well, you won't find him taking engine numbers at Paddington Station."
