9F problem...Hi all,
Recently, my 9F has started playing up. When running it on my layout, it tends to stop for no apparant reason, a fault not shared by other locomotives. To cure this problem, you push the loco or tender, or both, side to side on the track, then it starts again.
The problem does not occur at all on the above layout.
The problem starts to occur on the above layout, but not very much.
This layout shows the outer and inner rings of my layout-image the second and third as smaller/bigger versions of what is shown. The problem occurs frequantly on this layout.
I've no idea what the problem is-any ideas?

Sounds like the pick ups need a bit of a clean . What happens if you turn it around on the same track ? ie one way its always turning left the other right

Is it tender drive? If so, check that the tender has a good contact with the loco. My Duchess can be a pain because the left pick-up is from the loco and the right pick-up is from the tender.
And as Pete says, make sure all pick-ups are clean. (A tiny bit of muck can be a REAL pain in the a+++e!  )

Pete, it's exactly the same in the other direction, I'll try and give the pick-ups a clean (this is the part when I wish that the 9F's didn't have ten driving wheels...)
Tom, it is tender drive, I'll check the connection between loco and tender later.

Just had a thought Declan, does it happen on the curved-to-straight junctions (or vice versa)? If so, it could be that your main track layout has developed some 'bumps' and with the 9F being 10-coupled, the loco is being lifted and loses contact. Check the track to make sure it's dead flat.
Whatever the cause, it's a real pain....

It happens EVERYWHERE! I've got an out-take of one of my videos which shows it happening on a straight, I could upload it later tonight if it were helpful?

Then i would have a look at the power connector between the loco and tender . Have you got another tender drive loco that you could try swapping the tender with ?
Also as a thought i know on Ryans 'James' the tender will run by its self as it picks up power on both sets of tender wheels as well . That started running strange and it was the tender wheels not picking up propley as the metal tyre had come away from the plastic axle

Hi, sorry to hear about the problem, As Tom says check for any irregularities in the track, I know how annoying it can be to find a bit of track alligned improperly, Also check that as it is running the connecting rod between the tender and locomotive is not slacking, this happened to my scotsman and the same problem, tighten the screw a little that holds the bar in place if it is, also try and file some of the track, it may just be like Pol's problem with his Big boy, when it derailed.
