Enlarged turntable

Hi  All,

A problem  has reared  its head  no  doubt  for  poliss  as  well      with the  big  boy   how  do  i  turn  it  round  on the  layout  with  the  atlas  turntable i  have .... only  around  7'' diameter the  big  boy  is  over  ten inches  long

The  Walthers  130''  is  far  too  much   money  and  so  i  thought  about converting  the  one i  have but  where  do i  get  a  thin light  disc around  11  inches in diameter  to  add  on  top  of  the  turntable

The  motor  can  be  mounted  under the  board  as  it  slides  out  easily  with its  mounts  from the  turntable base.

I would have a look in the second hand shops or recycling centre for an old record player , the platter on them is between 10 ~ 12 inchies depending on the make , Most are made from plastic about 3 mill thick

A circular piece of plywood on top of the Atlas turntable might work. As seen in this conversion. http://tinyurl.com/6jacux
Here's the part that shows the the circular plywood piece. http://tinyurl.com/5m5mz5

Of course you don't need to alter the gears etc. as they do, but you can adapt the design to make the turntable bigger.

Made  some  progress with  the  turntable adding a rounded off end for it to turn round the big boys (10'') without having to rerail them  and provide a roundhouse, i've used a modified Atlas one makng it 11 1/2 inches in diameter nearly OO gauge size and built a well for it to sit under would have been nice to use the bigger Atlas one but bit out of budget
The board after cutting out was lined with 80 thou black plasticard sheet 30mm deep strips, a second layer of plasticard was applied with more contact glue the joints staggered.

After a sanding inside the lining was done i smeared a thin layer of PVA around to give a key for the two layers of plastercloth applied to give a smooth finish and cover the joints in the plastic a wet sponge helps to smooth the cloth.
