Festival of Light 2008

November brings the annual event, named 'Festival of Light', to Huddersfield. It was performed by the Spanish group, Xarxa and is a free event paid for by taxes and includes a bright, loud and musical display. Each year the subject if different. The last show included trapeze artists, opera singers, enormous inflatable sea creature roaming the town centre's streets and this year, a parade around the town centre with showering sparks, music, entertaining actors/dancers and every year, rounded off with a spectacular firework display (Better than the one that Standard Fireworks put on in the park!). This years event was held on the Friday night and again on the Saturday so I took the opportuniy to get some pictures of the fireworks the night after, after enjoying the parade with friends the night before.
These pictures were taken back at the bus station after the parade (there was toom much pushing and shoving to be able to get good photos - yes, and another point, if you arent fit and able or have young children with you can't really see what is going on - far too busy!

Examples of the hand held fireworks that the performers used

Some inflatable creatures, similar to the ones last year

Part of the grand finale sequence

And some pictures of the fireworks

Aaaaaaaaaahhh....ooooOOOOOOOOOOHHH.

Those are some great photos. When I try to take pics of fireworks all you can see is a red blur.
Even older tom

Damn fine firework shots Will.  What camera did you use?  Like Pol, I end up with blurs or total blackness!
Will

Cheers guys. I used a Nickon D70 but I had to change the shutter speed and the exposure settings :S it makes the photos capture more light and give them that 'bigger' effect and you can see the rockets go up into the sky and explode.
Teleman

Nickon ? or do you mean Nikon
Will

 Yes
Joe

Very good pics there  Will, some expert timing and precision aiming seems to be evident from those images well done!
Will
