For instance, in a 1918 article an officer chappie takes a trip to the USA and is extremely insulted when a civillian, who is clearly of the wrong 'caste' talks to him without permission or introduction.
The officer fobs him off, only to be told, after the pleb had left, that the 'civillian' is actually the second most important person in America after the president.
