Flying Scotsman... Isnt Flying!

Can anybody Help? I have a tender driven 2003 Flying Scotsman that just wheel spins and then Cuts the controller Out The tender Moves On its Own for a short time but then When I attach the Rest of the Loco (Properly) with contacts Touching the Metal under the Cab It just wheel spins and Cuts out! I also do not know how to attach Traction tyres or get the Body off Because it didnt come with Instructions or a Proper Box (Ebay )

Help is always appreciated as You Know!

Is this your loco? http://tinyurl.com/5nnfwo
Does the loco run freely when pushed on it's own without the tender?
Joe

I think so yes. and it does run freely without the tender, Yes.

Here's the Hornby service sheet. Looks like it covers tender and loco drive engines.
Is there any oil or grease on the tyres, do they seem loose? On my locos I find it impossible to take the tyres of without ruining them, much easier to put new ones on.
Joe

I Have the tyres in a little Bag on my Desk but they dont seem to be able to fit onto the Tender as they are to loose!

Tom might be of more help. He has OO Gauge locos, all mine are N Scale.

There could be lots of reasons why you are having problems Joe.  As you don't know the origins of the model, I'd check the service sheet to see if there's anything missing, like a weight in the tender!  It could be that the front of the tender is being lifted if it's not pushed down firmly into the loco body connector. My Duchess is  like that.  My tender drive locos don't like traction tyres missing either but they are old and I would expect that.
Try the firm connection fix and if that doesn't work, new traction tyres would be favourite.  Get back to us if it's still misbehaving.
Joe

I will try and Get the traction tyres on today (If my headache goes away!) Thanks Tom and Pol. I will also try to get the Body off with a screwdriver.

I might also Put a small weight in I have plenty of them I call them 2 pences!

I wouldnt recommend trying to take the tender body off unless you have the destructions of how to. I tryed on my 2002 Scotsman, and as I sent it off to Trianman for overhaul (competition prize) and he has told me that it needs a new tender chassis, cus its broken!

Tender drives do not like no traction tyres, I would recommend fitting a good pair, you might have to get them as spares if your ones dont fit.

Sorry I can't help more,

Thomas.

I think the Link Pol gave show how to. But just incase I will be very Careful I wont use any more than reasonable force... I sound like a Bobbie!

Thinking back, when I had a OO tender drive loco, it never used to work properly if I put the tender on when the loco was on the track. I used to put the tender on and then put the whole lot on the track. That way I could be sure the connection between loco and tender was seating properly.
Joe

I got it working for a few seconds before it derailed and broke the rear bogies Screw on the Loco so now the tender wont attach as it cant fit into the Rear Bogie couping as it is all floppy and dangle down cos of the screw That is missing I have also Fitted One Tyre thats why it was working.  Its the screw head that broke Off Btw so I cant screw it back in or puit a new one in because the rest of it is still in there
Joe

I fixed it Now The connector on the Loco needed lifting as the copper strips werent touchinmg the tender
