Ghost ?Ghost ? or should i say Lion ? the first Brush type 4 or class 47 to you young ones
Anyway as i had a few pennies in my paypal account and i had seen this bag of bits ,, it was too much i just had to buy it . The kit is from Craftsman to convert the Hornby 47 into Lion (D0260) and comes with over lays for the sides but a bit of cutting is needed to fit the roof . After a few hours looking at the bits and reading the destructions i made a start
Next the OMG ! don't cut there moment , these power tools make light work of plastic but remember to wear safety glassies 
I have also cut off all the handrails and sanded out the moulding marks left by Hornby as well 
Not so bad now , trimmed up the roof line and glued in the roof supports and time for a beer as that will do for one night |

The sides and roof on , the sides are stuck on with double sided tape as it the best i have found for the job and then soldered to the suports and roof , Altough the cab roofs are white metal i have also soldered them on to now working on the finer things on the roof ,also soldered 
Its late now so the rest can wait , its now time for a look round the forum and a beer

Brass looks so good, I always feel the need to leave it with that finish.
It's coming along well Pete. Have the brass/white metal fittings added much weight? |

Thanks Tom , The brass has not realy added any weight as its very thin but the white metal has . The body shell now tips the scales at 80g where it started at 45g .
The brass looks nice but it will have a coat of paint , white of cause , thats why it was known as 'The Ghost' |

After fighting with the buffers as they don't want to fit right i have brought some 2 mill numbers from the model shop today and fitted them . Also made hand rails as well
I will get back to those buffers later

Very carefully
I used masking tape and put the spacing on there ,then stuck that on the cab side . Using MEK glue stuck the numbers on , easy realy , still took all evening to do all four numbers though |

No matter how careful I am, the glue always seems to go everywhere, just by taking the lid off the bottle sometimes. I envy you skilfull people.

After buying some epoxy glue today as the last lot was setting to slow i have refitted the buffers , they are square now  before they kept on sinking downward while the glue set  the new stuff sets in 5 mins ... but don't use it in California ? because its says if can form cancer there   as if i'm going to eat it , It's glue ! used for sticking things

The weather has been just right for spraying today  so Lion got a coat of primer so i could see if any more filling etc was needed , There are a few spots i'm not happy with but its looking good
Even got the bogies and under frame primed to , |

YOU might notice the 'few spots I'm not happy with' but others probably won't!
Any particular shade of 'white' you have in mind for the final coat Pete? There are quite a few available in spray cans..

Thats the teleman's spray post I have a few of them , made from spray can lids and a centre from a fax roll , I glue the loco on with hot melt glue it makes a good stand for spraying and drying as you can move them around easy without touching the paint work
Tom ,,, the shade of white , well its ment to be white but i have read it was an ivory white so i was going to mix in a drop of yellow into a white paint , then a careful rub along the sides to get back to the brass on the name plate and lines along the side Well thats the plan

Thats okay , The motor and bogies come from the doner class 47 not much work to do to them apart from a painting white and service the motor |

I was looking at the bogies and thought ,, mmmmm those dummy wheel bits look realy realy naff so out came the drill  a short will later
A great improvement , as the bogies will be white it would stand out if the wheels were diffrent , took a while but worth the effort

After a few problems with the paint mix  the fisrt coat of white went on today
The Deltic is in gray primer so you can see the diffrence |

Gave her a coat of varnish today so the brass on the side stays nice and golden and to stop the transfers coming off and just need to glaze a few more windows , fit the wipers and cabs so its almost finished | ||

Nice , I just waiting for the varnish the harded on mine before i start on the detailing
Heres a picture of mine having a run on Ryan's layout You can tell its running cause of the blur but i will say i was playing with the camera on multi shot more than trying for a good photo , but it shows it works
