Great little film of a trip on a coal train

This is a smashing film.  Filmed from the footplate as well as (and uniquely as far as I can remember) from the guards van of a coal train.  You can almost smell the smoke.
I think the locos are ex-NCB 0-6-0 Hunsletts.  Anyone know if that's correct?

Very nice film. Thanks for the link.
I did a bit of searching and found that the loco is a Robert Stephenson 0-6-0ST, No. 49. http://www.steamtraingalleries.co.uk/pic_tanfield_003.html

Hi Tom........the loco is one of the WD Austerity shunters.
There were nearly 400 them built during and just after the war and later many were sold to the LNER where they became the "J94" class [68008-68080  .....ttbomk]  .............most of the remainders were passed on to industrial users [NCB being the main one].
In addition to the ex WD locos, the design was so successful that production of these locos carried on until the 1960's ..........resulting in another 93 locos going into industrial service.
The class is probably the most prolific of all the preserved steam locos, well over 70 are still in existence today.

Thanks lads, at least I got the ex-NCB part nearly right!

The size of the engine is probably why they are so well preserved... they must be the best for size and performance.   If I had a few acres of land and loads of money, I think I'd be tempted to buy one and have a real garden railway, instead of a model!

Now, that WOULD upset the neighbours!

Nah, just change your name to Fred Dibnah and no one will mind.

Glad to help Tom
They were prob'ly the most powerful British 0-6-0 Tank Loco ever ........they put out a very respectable 23,870lb of Tractive Effort......[By Comparison  ............the GWR 57xx class put out 22,515 and the LMS "Jinty" 20,830].
The fact that they were built until 1964 has helped the numbers which made it into preservation. I suspect that most preserved railways will have at least one example [even if it is only "awaiting restoration"]
A local colliery near to my home ran one well into the 1970's ....I've tried all ways to find out what exactly happened to it [including quizzing one of the old firemen]  .................I suspect it was one of the unlucky ones,so far,I've only drawn a blank.
