Hornby class 47's

A very long time ago ( before a lot of you were born) back in the 70's Hornby made there first class 47 . It was known then as a Brush type 4 and i remember it being in BR blue with a 'D' number but i can now olny find it in green with a pre tops number . Is it my age playing tricks or are they so rare you never see them

These are the ones I can find. Can't see a blue one with a D number.

Not many 47s had D numbers and blue livery. No idea if triang made one. Here's the story of BR Blue.

I am pretty certain that they did not make a blue 47 with a "D" number, but it is not unknown for a Tri-ang or Hornby model to turn up having had the wrong number applied in the factory. Some class 35 Hymeks were made in blue during which time they carried the proper number D7063. However, a small batch escaped the factory with the then class 37 number of D6830. It is possible that one of the first blue 47s (I think 47421 was the proper number) was given the number of one of the green 47s or even a another model by mistake. These mistakes can be quite valuable if you can find one.

Nope, Hornby have never released a BR Blue Class 47 with the "D" prefix.
Hornby's first BR Blue 47 was numbered, 47 421.

In 1999, Lima released D1957 in BR Blue.

According to Pat Hammond's History Of Rovex, volume 3, the first blue 47 was 47421 complete with those thick masking lines!

Whilst Mr Hammond doesn't mention it, it is possible that the numbers could have been incorrectly used as he does make reference to the Hymeks with the number from the Class 37 tool being used.  I dare say we've all come across something or another that was incorrectly made - I had a car transporter with Mk3 coach bogies fitted!

Hornby were going to do Kestral, they might have abandoned that idea when Brush sold it to Russia.

It says "Boiler Cleaner" as my forum ranking!  At least it isn't boiler sludge!
