Hornby decoder wire

Why don't Hornby show on the product pic that there's an intended loose wire on thier decoder. It would save a lot of confusion amongst newcomers. https://www.hornby.com/hornby-dcc...motive-decoder-r8215/product.html

They hide it well on the picture

I see that accross the pond they have 9 pin plugs so there is no loose wire.

Anyone know what the extra wire is for ?
poliss

It's the 4th function.

Will the UK one give any output if you tell it to ?

Yep, all the wires work. It's only because we use 8 pin plugs for some reason that theres a loose wire. I can think of how you can use 4 functions, front light, rear light, kadee couplers, and even 5, a fan, but what can you do with the new 21 pin decoders?
Rog (RJ)

At the moment, 21 pin decoders can do nothing more than an 8 pin decoder.  The 21 pin decoder has been brought in to cater for future expansion, in particular, when used with sound.  It has extra pins for speakers, a SUSI interface (whatever that is, Serial User....something or other) and extra motor connections for brushless motors.

There are also 22 pin decoders being introduced
