Hornby Railroad 08 fitting GuideI'm trying to put together a comprehensive list of all guides that are available. One that I have found missing is a guide for the Railroad 08 with inside frames. Has anyone seen one?
There are at least 3 guides for the new outside framed version that I've seen so far.

I have the earlier version of the Railroad 08 (1990), but no desire to fit a chip to it. No need to DCC it as I have the Super detailed Hornby 08 and Bachmann 08.
Give me a couple of days, and I'll draft up a report on how to do it.

Sorry Poliss, I wasn't aware that some members have been banned from RMWeb.

I've finally got around to DCC'ing my 20 year old Hornby Class 08 Shunter
Pictures added.
The guide below is for fitting a chip to the 1990 version of the Hornby 08.
It should also apply to the current Hornby Railroad 08.
Decoder used is the Bachmann 36-552 2 function decoder.
Usual disclaimer applies.
1. The chassis is of the live type, so the motor needs to be fully isolated from the chassis
Live side
Insulated side
2. Disconnect all wiring and discard.
Motor in place
Motor and wiring removed
3. To remove the motor, undo the screw and lift up. Important! Don't loose the insulating slieve on the copper contact.
On the live side of the chassis, note the copper contact running under the motor. This connects to the brush contact under the motor, and needs to be removed.
Now this is the tricky bit. Below the motor there's a small copper contact that's needs the decoder to be soldered to before refitting the motor to the chassis.
Before refitting the motor, I would strongly advise to insulate this area of the chassis with Insulating tape and also the bottom of the motor.
Failure to do so could result in a blown decoder.
Decoder hardwired and ready for the body to be repaced.
The yellow insulating slieve was removed and replaced with heat shrink tubing shrunked to a tight fit.
This part of the pickup rests very close to the chassis, and failure to replace the insulating tube could cause a short and a blown decoder.
R803 Class 08 Shunter #08 938
How does it run ? not as smooth as the super detailed Class 08's.
While it runs ok on the 2 function decoder, I think the three function would give all round better performance with the Type 7 motor.
