I must have one of these!!

Athearn Big Boy pulling 41 wagons with sound.

I'll  supply  the wagons  if you  supply  the  big boy   Poliss   ...    lol
poliss

On my track that amount of wagons would be more than a tail chaser, they'd be sitting on the loco. lol She is a beaty Nick. Worth every penny.

''I must have  one  of  these ''

Well  i  have one  on  the way ...thanks  Poliss for  the  link  .....
The  dog has  that  challenging (no pun)  look  of  beat  you  to the  door  when  its  delivered ......i  have  my  running  shoes  all  polished  up  and ready  to  go   though
upnick

4-8-8-4  #4001 arrived  first  thing  and  runs beautifully   few track issues  to  sort  out but  all  ran smoothly,  as  you said  Poliss perfect  track  is  needed
poliss

Now what are you going to do for a Xmas pressie?

Rake of  U.P.   Kato  coaches  to  go  with  it  would  be  nice, with  lighting.
poliss

How many sounds have you found so far?
upnick

Only got  a  chance  for  a  quick  test  run  this  morning  before  work  Poliss  but just  going  to run  again  will  let  you  know  how  it  goes i know  this morning i couldnt  get  a  readback  from the  decoder on the  programme  track to  readdress  it, had  bell  chuff  and  horn  this  morning   for  starters.
upnick

Back after  trying  to  programme  the  loco  i  can get  the manufacturers  number (144)  but  it  doesnt  read  the  decoder  version and  goes  to  paged  mode  .. got  the  address  set  there  ''4001'' but  when  i  go to  try  it  the  direction  is  wrong  and  trying to  set  the  CV  29  to  2   it  takes  on but  sends the address  back  to  03
Still  i  tried  the  sounds and  using  the  function  buttons  got  all  the  sounds outlined  in the  manual  F1 - F9 including  all  19  whistles on  F8 as  to the others  i'm  not  sure  how to  get  higher  functions than   F9.
Rog (RJ)

I think you need to add 32 to CV29 to enable 4 digit addressing, so in this case you would write 34 to CV29.

Hi  RJ,

Many  thanks  for  the  information after  my  last  post  i  tried  programming on  the  main  track as Athearn  mentioned  voltage  may  not be  good  enough  to  programme  on the  programme  track with  sound  decoders fitted  ......  it  worked  first time  and now  has  the address 4001
poliss

*takes notes furiously*
upnick

Looking  at this one  now
http://con-cor.com/zephyr.html
Need  to fibd  out  which  decoder  fits  it and  if a  sound  decoder  wll  fit  to  fit  inside  the  predrilled  out second coach  for sound
poliss

Odd looking trains are my kind of thing. I'm not keen on the alooominum color scheme though.
Teleman

Looks like a Dalek , nice though
poliss

I collect Daleks too. See my photobucket page.

After talking  to  my  DCC   supplier  they  dont know if  a  sound decoder exists  for  the  Zephyr after  looking  on Loksounds lists so  maybe  i'll give  it  a  miss  and after  seeing  an  article  on  DCC   fitting it  seems  its  a  tight  fit   ...... and  go on  the  hunt  for  more  U.P  coaches ......

The  Procab  it  seems  needs  a  new  Eprom  chip which  is on its way to  access  functions  higher  than  12, has anyone  replaced  one  of  these as i may  be being  alarmist  but  i  dont  like  the   reading  in  the online  manual
4. Carefully bend the leads of the new
EPROM until they are straight down the
sides of the EPROM to line up with the
socket holes.

are  the  new  leads like  a plug in  decoders  leads  and  nothing  to do  with  the  28 pins  to line  up in  the socket   ? as  i  dont  fancy  bending  the pins if  this  is  the  case.
Rog (RJ)

It will be the 28 legs of the actual eprom chip.  Quite easy to get them straight, just hold the chip by the ends and press one side of the eprom down onto a nice flat surface then do the other side of the eprom.
poliss

A no_prize to the first person who can say what EPROM stands for.
poliss

There are three makes of UP smoothside coaches as far as I know. Kato and Con-Cor you probably already know about. There is also Rowa, which made the coaches for Con-Cor as far as I remember.

No there not , but i'm not keen on the idea of 'home fitting' of eprom or any other chip as you can blow then it you don't fit the right
upnick

Got  the  eprom  fitted,  the  trick  is to line  up  one side the hardest to  see  when  its installed then  gently  let in the other side  of pins.

Amongst other  things  of  course  now i  can  access the  missing  functions  on the  cab  the  chip  i took  out  was dated  1994 !
poliss

Dated 1994 hmm, from what you read on the Big H forum you'd think DCC only started last week.

This is true Poliss,   i have  some  Con Cor U.P. coaches but  they  seem  a bit  to  chucky  egg  yellow  to me  bit  too  deep  a  shade routed  them  out of  the  box  and  found  some still  need   microtrains  trucks  ftting
Another  job  to  do   ..........
poliss

Don't believe everything you read in Wikipedia Declan.

The only other one I can find is Entrepreneurial Programming and Research On Mobiles
