PVAIs PVA ok for sticking down cork sheets?

It tends to be absorbed by the cork and you don't get a good instant 'stick' which means you end up with areas that aren't glued. Cork tile adhesive is a bit more like Evo-Stick. If it's a big area, B & Q adhesive is the cheapest but if it's a small area (like track bed), tubes of Evo-Stck will work.

Rats! I wanted to cover my baseboard to deaden the noise. Didn't want to buy special adhesive.

PVA will work for your baseboard Pol if you lay the tiles and pile books on top so that they dry flat. If you are going to use PVA, remember that it's WATER based so don't be tempted to lift the books less than 8 hours after you've glued 'em. (this is from previous experience! )

It's two 36"x24"x1/16th" rolls, just to make things a little quieter.

OK, you'll have to lay the books as you go. If you haven't enough books, you'll have to go VERY SLOWLY using the one I sent you!

I have about 340 books. Will that be enough?
(I used to have over 2,000)
