Temperature Controlled Soldering Iron

I think these are a must nowdays as solder is now lead free and needs more heat why not get one of these to replace your old one !
It can also be used with white metal kits (with the right solder)

I've got an old Weller temp controlled and a desoldering station.  Bought them really cheap when a workshop closed down £10 each
Teleman

The old Weller irons just keep on going ,I've got two of them one is over 20 years old and the other 4 years old .
I know people moan about the price of them but a good one will last for many years and you can get spare parts for them to
poliss

I have a soldering iron. It's yellow.
Teleman

Its not a Weller one then , there blue or black
might be Antex then there yellow
poliss

No, it's a 30w Eagle. Was on special offer at Maplins.

If I'd had one of those I might have been able to repair my Psion organizer, the main processor had a dry joint on a couple of pins, tried with a very fine tip but failed.  I got another Psion of ebay for 11 quid, a bit of a saving on the hot air kit
poliss

Not surprising you heard a crash. The winds blowing my flat about again. I'm feeling seasick.
Teleman

At the moment i pay someone who has one like this to resolder or fit them for me . Its now getting to the point where i would save the cost of it in about 2 years , and i could do other peoples to and get more back that way
Even older tom

The £30 one is more in my price range.

I'd love to know how the hot air one works, though.  Anyone know how?
Rog (RJ)

Yeah. it uses hot air
Teleman

Very hot air !! Think of it as a small fan heater in the base unit and a pipe from that to the head unit .
I have a gas powered hand held one and that will melt lead free solder no problem . Looking at the spec it says "torch temp 1300c" (thats hot air) "soldering tip temp 210-400c"
