Tender screwsA quick tip here [for Old Toms "Live Steam" tutorials].
I had to replace a tender wheel on my Mallard today.
It had seized at some point,and had a "flat" on it ...also,the loco would run for 10 minutes,and then cut the controller out.
On removing the tender "underplate" ....held on by eight small screws ....I first replaced the wheel set which had the "flat" ..and then cleaned the contacts for the other two axles.
Coming to replace the eight small screws which hold the base-plate on ...I realised that either the screws are too small.or my old fingers aint as nimble as they used to be.....[Hornby actually recommend leaving the screws located in the base-plate ....easier said than done  ]
Problem solved by ...... 
Using the small end of the "spanner/socket" wotsit used for tightening the con-rods & motion.
The hexagonal shaped "thingy" is just the right size to hold the head of the screw enough to locate it into its thread.
Dont force the screw in ....it fits comfortably enough to just grip the thread before tightening with your small screwdriver.
But really ....  ...I would have thought that Hornby would have had the foresight to make them magnetic .....  ....Sadly ....not the case.
It's running like a good 'un now again ....I've just had 50+minutes out of a "tankful" of H2O ....

 I thought about that ....but I'd no blu-tack to hand....
