What the heck hapens when you crash it?

That's a vicious beast. I wouldn't like to be standing in front of it at take-off. Proper pulse jet too, like the V1. The air has to be passing through the engine at high speed before it will start. That's why the V1 had a rocket booster on it.

The Salamander went from drawing board to first flight in 69 days. Designed as extremely simple to fly so that even novice pilots could handle it. Initially it was going to have two engines, but was built with only one. This made it extremely difficult to fly and only very experienced pilots could fly it.

For instance, in a conventional plane coming in to land, if you're coming in short of the runway you increase the throttle a little which lifts the nose. Try that in the Salamander with the engine high on it's back and it will push you into the ground.

If there's still fuel in the tank, there's a big bang and loads of smoke.  Not for the feint hearted!
