What are these?Flatish coil type things under the capacitor. Something to do with lighting I think. But will they interfere with DCC? The directional lighting is controlled by two flat selenium plates seen on the lighting bus on either end.

The trouble will be with the directional won't work as it is on DCC . You will need to use the light output from the decoder to get them to work .

I can bypass the selenium plateseasily enough, but the coil thingies are harder. (For novices in electronics, 'thingy' is an extremely technical term).

It looks like you can lift the bus bars at the end of the coils so taking the lights out of the motor circuit . Thats what i would do and leave the coils in place

What are the coils for though? They resemble the inside of an old scalextric hand controller.

Tech head on ?
Coils stop high frequency and so there are no nasty spikes getting to the bulbs which might make them blow

Probably for the Piko AC 16v hf coach lighting unit then. Now, as I remember, the power from the tracks goes through the bulbs, then through the coils and finally to the motor. If these coils stop high frequency, then would that include dcc?

Could be they would it depends on there value

I'll try a dcc decoder with them in plce first. When I get round to it. Could be months.
