What Controller?OK, so I got my first section of flexi-track today, just so I had something done for my N-Gauge layout. My sister kindly allowed me to test the track with her Elizabethan train set.
The set contained a Graham Farish A4 and a Bachmann standard controller, which I'd been thinking of getting to use for my layout. However, the A4 took off like a rocket when it started to move. Is it the locomotive? And if it isn't what cheap alternative would you suggest that allows slow speed running?

My only thought is the right power pack with it ? I can't find one to see what the voltage should be

The transformer and controller both said 12v.

@Camborner:
What reading do you get on a voltmeter if you connect it parallel to the track and the controller is set to zero?
if you get a reading other than zero volts on the track, the controller is damaged. The power pack should be OK.
One other thought:
I had a Graham Farish locomotive in the early days of N-gauge and was not really impressed with the running performance. It needed a comparatively high voltage to start and then I experienced the same result as you described, compared to a Fleischmann or Arnold loco.
Hope this helps a bit,
Erhard
