What were they called?

Before the horrible American word *bus* started to be used? The extra wires for a track circuit I men.

It's been used in electronics for a long time , I can remember it from my days as an apprentice back in the late 70s but as a common supply or return know as a 'bus bar'

It came from NASA. "Apollo 13 here. We seem to have a main B Bus problem." Or something like that.

Always been known as bus bars afaik, I worked for BT (post office telephones when I started) where the bus bars can be upto about 12inch by 1inch carrying 50v.  Drop a spanner on them and it would melt explosively.
