This is my newest model. All I know about it is that it's a 40' boxcar and may have been built in 1942 by AAR? Not sure about any of the details. Two days of interwebing haven't enlightened me any further. Anyone have more info?

Who is the manufacturer of the model and which roadnumber does it have?
The roadnumber in the picture is bit blurred...

Maybe I can find some more info from my archives.

I think it's made by Bachmann. The auction had no info of who made it. I searched other auctions and one with the same road number was advertised as being by Bachmann.
The road number on the side is 189069. The only reasons I think it was a 1942 model is the writing on the car side, which is 'New 7-42 and BLT 7-42'.

The car does look bachmann to me in its style of truck and how they sit /the metal wheels.

Nice references in your first link Nick. I'll have to find a sticky place for it somewhere.

I looked at your second link yesterday. Found the car there, but apart from it being a former CB&Q car there wasn't much more info.

The info is for my Yard Office inventory prog btw. I hate having blank boxes in it.

I did some digging but the results are not really satisfactory:

The Bachmann car has problems. Bachmann is not the most reputable company when it comes to research and development. Their AAR 40' box car is probably a stock rendition and they paint it with color schemes that look like they will sell.

Great Northern Railway DID have 40' box cars in that number series. They were built in the GN shops, built by the railroad.

Series : XM
Length : 40'-6"
Single door
Smooth Side
Steel
Sliding door 6'
GN
Year built : 1949
Quantity built : 1000

So maybe Bachmann researched the number.

That's it so far, I can come up with. I sent out a couple of emails to friends working with historical societies but it can take a while before a reply comes in, considering that the boxcar was a "quite common" design...

Fills in some of the blanks in Yard Office.
What I have noticed while researching US rolling stock is that the height and weight are hardly ever given. Which is annoying as there are boxes for this info in Yard Office. cwm21

As an extremely rich person, who has built from scratch a preserved railroad somewhere in Germany, it doesn't really matter if the colour scheme is not correct as I can paint them any colour I like. laughing6
