I would like to know what makes of soldering iron he used as higher power is not always the answer to using lead free solder , its a good soldering iron and knowing how to solder .
As i always say 'soldering is an art' and i use lead free solder but never with the same tip that i use for leaded solder as if there is lead solder left on the tip it mixies with the lead free so there is then lead in the solder making it flow better .
Also i keep a selection of tips from 1 mill to 5mill in size as the right size bit for the job is half the battle with soldering . Trying to solder pick up wires back on with a big tip on the soldering iron and its going to melt the plastic around the joint but a 1 mill tip will do the job a lot better .
I use lead free solder with no problems but my soldering irons are both temperature controled ones , i just set it to the heat needed for the type of solder i am using .
I could go on for hours but won't , but if any forum members want to try some lower melting point solder .7 mill dia send me a PM and i will put some in the post , or look in the 'finescale or 009' section on Ebay as i sell it there
